FEBRUARY 2003 ..............................................
Path Of Champions / Sydney Olympic Park
Jana Pittman today became just the 14th athlete to be inducted into the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre Path of Champions.
At the conclusion of the National Championships, the Hon Sandra Nori, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation presented Jana with a plaque
to commemorate her achievements at the 2003 World Championships in Paris, where at only 20 years of age, she became the youngest ever world 400m
hurdles champion.
The Path of Champions at Sydney Olympic Park recognises New South Wales athletes who have won either Olympic or World titles or have bettered World
Records in events recognised by International sporting bodies. Initiated in 1994 during its construction, it is the first time since 1994 that
the Path of Champions has been updated since the Olympic arena was unveiled.
Whilst Jana was presented with a replica, the original plaque itself is featured at the beginning of the Path of Champions, inside the main gate of
the Athletics Centre at Homebush Olympic Park. In having her achievement documented in the Path of Champions, Jana joins an elite group of athletes
including Nick Winter, Jack Metcalfe, Marjorie Jackson, Betty Cuthbert, Fleur Mellor, Marlene Mathews, Albie Thomas, Denis Wilson, Betty Moore, Bob Lay,
Maureen Caird, Jennifer Lamy and Kerry Saxby.
