June 2009 ..............................................
State Cross Country Relays.
Thank you and congratulations to everyone who turned up to compete at Saturdays State Cross Country Relays.
We had a huge turnout of 60 runners who competed in 17 teams. Despite all of the rain and the mud we
managed to come away with 2 Gold medal winning teams(U16 girls and 35+
Women) as well as two Bronze performances (from our U18 Girls and our 45+
Men).
In addition we had 1 team finish in 4th place and 4 teams finish in 5th place a great achievement.
By the end of the day the mud in many places was ankle deep, runners such as Abby Brown, Elese Gallen and Kieran
Roche(to mention just a few)came back with mud all over them, however special mention must go to Clare Pendlebury who after having avoided most of
the mud for 4km slipped at the corner about 150m from the finish and got covered in mud from head to toe.
One of the most pleasing things about the teams on the weekend was the number of juniors we had competing.
It is the first time that I can remember that we were able to field teams in
the U12s and U14s in both the boys and the girls, it was great to see so
many of the youngsters going around in the Hills uniform. We managed to
field teams in all of the female races except for the 45+ and 55+ so if you
know of any females who are over 45 and like to run please ask them to
contact Steve. In the males side we were unable to field teams in the
U16s,U18's, 55+ and 65+ so again if you know of anyone in those categories
who likes to run get them to contact Steve Whelan.
Thank you also to those who turned up to cheer the team, Colin Fallon and Eloise Wilson as well as all
the parents and other family members. I am sure that seeing your friends and
loved ones running around in the mud will be a memory that will live for a
long time.
